Villa Angelica cookie recipe

I just baked the last of that batch of cookies I made for Villa Angelica, and I remembered that I promised to post the recipe. The cookies I brought to the villa were part of a double batch where I substituted 16 oz choc. chips, 8 oz toffee chips, 1 cup toasted almonds, and 1/2 cup dried cherries for the chips & nuts.

I chilled the dough overnight, laid out plastic wrap, and spooned  out the dough for a dozen cookies on each sheet of plastic. Then I rolled the dough into logs and wrapped each log in plastic and then in tin foil. Then I froze the logs. When you want cookies, unwrap a log, slice the cookies and bake. I find freezing cookie dough like this works for most drop cookies, but it does make them more chewy and less crisp.
 Chocolate Chip Oatmeal Cookies

Ingredients:

1 1⁄2 cups All-Purpose Flour, unsifted

1 cup Oatmeal
1 tsp Baking Soda
1 tsp Salt

1 cup Butter, softened
3⁄4 cup Sugar
3⁄4 cup Brown Sugar, packed,

2 large Eggs
1 tsp Vanilla
12 ounces Chocolate Chips

1 cup Walnuts, chopped

Directions:

Preheat oven to 375 degrees.
In small bowl, combine flour, baking soda, and salt. Set aside.

In large bowl, cream butter and sugars until light. Add vanilla, and beat in eggs, one at a time. Gradually add flour mixture until combined. Stir in chips and nuts.

Drop heaping teaspoon fulls onto ungreased cookie sheets. Bake for 8-10 minutes until golden brown.

Good to See You!

Cypress Point

It was good to see all of you on Wednesday at Point Lobos.  I had a nice day and managed two 9×12 paintings.  Also, took some great photos for studio painting.  Next year, if all goes well, I’ll plan to come down for a couple of days.

Road Warriors to Sacramento in the Name of Art

Eunice, Sydney and Suzanne departed from Scotts Valley last week for a day outing to the Crocker Art Museum in Sacramento.  Eager to view the Edgar Payne exhibit there (58 of his paintings) they expected a drive of just over 2 hours.

As sometimes happens in life, things did not turn out quite as expected.  Despite being armed to the teeth with cell phones, smart phones and GPS devices, none of the happy threesome were aware of the fact that I80 freeway was closed in both directions near Davis.   They eventually discovered that a “police action” was underway.  This turned out to be a crazy person who shot somebody, car jacked 3 vehicles (including a farm tractor) and disturbingly,  got shot dead by police later in the day.

Our 3 Musketeers eventually stopped for nourishment somewhere in the traffic nightmare and finally  arrived, thanks to Eve, Eunice’s Prius based GPS system, at the Crocker Museum after 5 hours on the road.

The Edgar Payne show was wonderful – a lot was learned.  No photos are shown of the Payne paintings to avoid any copyright issues.  We are posting permitted photos of items from the permanent collection at the Crocker.

We had a great time even though the traffic situation made for an extra long day.  Thanks to our fearless driver, Eunice, we all arrived home safely to tell the story.
